Jose Sacked

In my last post I wrote how I expected Jose Mourinho to get sacked in May. It looks like the Board decided enough was enough and they pulled the trigger an entire month early. I don’t think this is much of a surprise at all. The results were terrible. The squad was clearly not enjoying themselves and Spurs made a huge mistake by employing Mourinho in the first place. It’s a good call to make this sacking happen now as it will give various coaches around the planet the chance to consider taking the job and if their current place of employment is where they want to be. I am sure there are some there that think that the squad isn’t as bad as the numbers reflect and it should be easy to juice the players and get them working again and enjoying the football. Nagelsmann is a name we keep hearing in the Rumour-,mill, but I think it unlikely Spurs can pull that one off. I think it’s more likely its Brendan Rogers. Ideally you want your new coach in on the 1st June to begin preparations for the season so I expect an announcement for the new manager somewhere around end of May.

The State of Spurs

I’ve been banging on a fair bit about Spurs recently and how its 1 step forward, 2 steps back. Looking at back these past 18 months and I feel the team have definitely regressed. Millions has been written off the player values due to not utilising them the correct way. Has-beens have been given 90 minutes while potentials are left to scrap over the last 10 minutes of a match. The entertainment value has totally ceased, its boring matches that emit zero joy. In the past Spurs would lose, but it was enjoyable! I’d rather a match we lost in a spectacular style than what we are served up now which are zombie players listlessly kicking the ball around with no real intent to score or defend and we still probably lose or its an insipid draw. The Carabao Cup is on in 2 weeks time. I don’t think the squad is in any state to beat Man.City, who are riding high right now and the any conceivable win will be due to Spurs getting lucky and City being very unlucky.
I am fully expecting that a day or two after the last football match of the season is played (23rd May) that the club announce that Mourinho has decided to leave with mutual consent following missing out on the targeted goals.
