What a lovely match to behold that was. Spurs were oozing class, confidence and quality as they put in a great effort and achieved a great result. Obviously Bale played a stonker but I think there were other highlights also. Doherty did the best I’ve seen from him in a long while, Regulion was a constant menace on the left. I felt Sonny should have done more, I think he probably needs a match or two rest now and Winks as always I feel provides little, so I was happy when he got subbed. Not that Sissoko as his replacement was stand out either. Nevertheless these are the green shoots of recovery here and I just hope they squad can remain injury free and push on through these last 10 matches or so that remain until the end of the season. Do I think top 4? Honestly… no , I think 5th spot will be our final spot. Not a disaster if we can keep the squad but I suspect a lot of change this summer.

Well, what an utter waste of humanity that was. Poor passing, poor motivation, poor effort, poor tactics, the only bright sparks were once again Ndombele and Holjberg in the centre of the park. Possibly Rodon also as decent, but everyone else was a joke. It’s awful to see Son go off the boil and look lost as he has been doing for a couple of matches now. I don’t know what’s happened here or behind the scenes, but the squad needs a rapid shake up, as does the coach. Jose M’s insistence to play Sissoko, who can’t pass at all, is causing misery. Moura also I feel now offers utterly nothing. This game also highlighted why Bale hasn’t been used that often, he’s a sub par player nowadays, well off what he once was. It was a tragedy to watch him running around, and doing absolutely nothing. Worse match I have seen Spurs offer in quite some time but I think it was coming. The dirge football over the past few weeks has maybe destroyed their spirit and I can only blame the coach for that. Its better to play high octane football, and get nowhere, rather than play dirge and get nowhere, and nowhere is where this team is currently entrenched in. Rubbish.

The past few matches have been utterly awful events. A dirge to watch and very frustrating given that Spurs seem to fall into the same predictable time-loop; start well, go a goal up early on, sit back, with 10 minutes to go opposing team score, frantically chase the winner and end up with a draw. We could see the team could play well and play attacking when they were chasing the winner in the last 10, so why weren’t they doing that in the 70 minutes previous? As I say, frustrating stuff. I think part of the problem is also the inclusion of either Winks or Sissoko, who for me, offer very little. Dier also is terrible but his lack of élan is plastered over. This match marked a positive change by switching to a 3-4-3 which allowed us to have far greater threat potential and I really hope this formation stays. I could see the team switch to a 5-2-3 when things looked hairy, then to a 3-4-3 when they took the handbrake off. The wingbacks offered greater width, and the central two of Hojberg and Ndombele could push and pull the game around. So after around a month of time waste we are at a point now that I hope we can relaunch a push to the top #3 which was seriously floundering. I am not sure what is going on with Bale however. Right now it looks like we are wasting £200K a week with his lack of inclusion and behind both Bergwijn and Moura. I think the squad is so bloated currently and we need to shed the following: Moura, Sanchez, Rose, Gedson, Lamela, Alli, Winks, Sissoko, I have high hopes for Skipp and Clarke both of whom are out on loan to be cover for DM and RW roles next season. We need a stop draw CB to replace Dier, and also right wing back for when Regulion isn’t firing. So sell 8, buy 2, get your loanees back and we’re in the best place we’ve been since, well, since the 1980s!

I think I was quietly confident that we would win this match, Spurs have become an ultra defensive team, Italian 1980s team type of defence, the meanest defence in the league. Unfortunately this means that the cavalier excitement has gone. We’re awful to watch. Honestly, its paint drying. However, we are actually in the top position! Technically that means we are the best team in the whole of England. This is not something that can be sniffed at. At the start of the season not a single pundit thought Spurs would finish in the top #4 and if I’m honest I didn’t think it either, I was hoping and dreaming for 4th, whereas my brain was saying most likely 5th. So to be where we are is a huge achievement and although we have a great many matches left before things draw to a close, I am confident that we will finish in the top #3 now. Which is great, we get to play in the Champions League next season and our team will be far better bedded in and better drilled. I’m still concerned by the boringness of the display, however I am hoping this is only because the quality of our recent opponents are high so we don’t take any risks whereas when play slightly more inferior teams we can be more expansive and drop the tortuga tactics. We’ll see I guess.

I’m listening to exclusively 1980’s music, and I realized that’s all I’ve been listening to for the past few years. I would have severe difficulty answering to name any artist or song post year 2000 that was any good. But here’s the thing; I feel that that music post 2000, it utter trash! Its crap unoriginal stuff (which is no doubt the exact argument made by Boomer generation people when they are listening to the Beatles or Bill Hailey and the Comets or whatever), I genuinely believe that the 80’s and 90’s was the musical apex of humanity and it went downhill from there. I dare music today to match the sexiness of Robert Palmer Addicted to Love, or the joie de vivre of Power of Love by Huey Lewis and the News, the foot-tappability of Footloose or just, heck, the hundreds of other songs from that era that can lift oneself. Listen, there was recently a viral video of some mean looking dude riding the back of a skateboard hanging onto a pickup drinking cranberry juice miming to Fleetwood Mac. Not something modern…I doubt it would have worked with any modern tune, instead it was an oldie song.
